OUR LOFT

BAY SAILS FOUND ITS HOME IN A HISTORICAL HAMILTON SAILMAKING LOFT.

Built in 1869, the Grant’s Sail Loft was built on the shores of the Hamilton Harbor to manufacture and repair the sails of ships that frequented the harbor.

The loft switched hands with the rise of the steam era. Additionally, the loft was used in both World War’s by the HMCS Star, a Canadian Forces Naval Reserve Division. Eventually, the loft was acquired by Hank and Anne Karine Nyhof, Sailmakers who gutted and rebuilt the loft to accommodate windows, an office and technical updates. They successfully restored a piece of Hamilton history.

Keven acquired the loft in 1998 and has happily called it home to Bay Sails ever since.
